Privacy Policy

Last updated: May 17, 2026

RideRooster ("we," "us," "our") provides a carpool coordination service for families. This Privacy Policy explains what information we collect, how we use it, and your choices regarding that information.

Information we collect

When you use RideRooster we collect:

  • Mobile phone number โ€” for account creation, authentication, ride notifications, and carpool invitations.
  • Name โ€” so other parents in your carpool can identify you.
  • Carpool, ride, and child information โ€” first names and optional last initials of children, ride schedules, addresses you choose to share with your carpool.
  • Usage data โ€” basic analytics about how you use the app, used to improve the service.
  • Device and network information โ€” your IP address, browser type, and timestamps are recorded for security purposes (rate limiting, fraud prevention, and investigating suspicious activity). This data is not used for marketing.

How we use your information

  • Verify your identity through SMS one-time passcodes
  • Coordinate carpools between you and other families you choose to share with
  • Send ride reminders, invitations, and schedule updates
  • Provide customer support
  • Improve and secure the service

SMS messaging

RideRooster sends two distinct kinds of SMS, with separate consent:

1. Sign-in verification codes. When you enter your mobile number, we text you a 6-digit code to verify your identity. This is required for your account to work. By entering your phone number, you consent to receive these verification codes.

2. RideRooster Alerts (optional). If you opt in, we text you ride reminders, driver assignment updates, schedule changes, and cancellations. You can opt in or out at any time on the post-signup Alerts screen or in Settings. Message frequency varies (typically 0โ€“5 per week per user). You can use RideRooster without opting in to Alerts.

Message and data rates may apply to both kinds of SMS.

To opt out of SMS messages at any time, reply STOP to any RideRooster message. To get help, reply HELP or contact us at the address below.

We do not share, sell, rent, or transfer mobile phone numbers or SMS opt-in consent to any third party for marketing purposes. Phone numbers are shared only with service providers necessary to deliver the messages you have consented to (for example, our SMS delivery vendor).

Who we share information with

We share your information only with:

  • Other members of carpools you join โ€” they see your name and the first names you provide for your children, so coordination works.
  • Service providers who help us operate the platform: Supabase (database and authentication), Vercel (hosting), Mapbox (address autocomplete), and our SMS delivery vendor. These providers are bound to use your data only as needed to provide the service.
  • Legal compliance โ€” when required by law or to protect rights and safety.

We do not sell your personal information.

Children

RideRooster is intended for use by parents and guardians. We do not knowingly collect personal information directly from children under 13. Parents may include first names (and optional last initials) of their children for carpool coordination; this information is visible only to other members of the same carpool.

Data retention

We retain account information while your account is active and for a reasonable period afterward for legal and operational purposes. You can request deletion of your account at any time by contacting us at the address below.

Your choices

  • Opt out of SMS by replying STOP
  • Request access, correction, or deletion of your data by contacting us
  • Leave a carpool at any time from your account settings

Changes to this policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. Material changes will be notified by SMS, email, or a notice within the app.
